Are My Child's Toys Safe?

By Cherie Kennedy, Home Consultant, Child Care Resource & Referral

How safe are your child’s toys? Who do you notify if you feel a toy is unsafe? The answer is at your fingertips. You can sign up to receive e-mail notification of all recalls from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). It is easy and free. The CPSC website also allows you to report any unsafe toys or equipment.

If you have Internet access, go to the following website:

www.cpsc.gov

Then follow these steps:

•Click on “Sign up for e-mail announcements.”

•Enter your e-mail address.

•Click on what type of notification you wish to receive (for example, all recalls).

•Click subscribe.

If you do not have Internet access, you may sign up to receive a quarterly newsletter from the CPSC, by calling 1-800-638-2772. You will need to give them your name, address, and telephone number.
