Dubuque County Community Assessment

In the fall of 2006, Dubuque County Empowerment concluded a Community Assessment of youth age 0-20 in Dubuque County. This project was a collaboration with many community partners, including the City of Dubuque, the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, Mississippi Valley Promise, all public and parochial school systems, the Department of Human Services, and other non-profit organizations. The goal was to gather public insights on youth needs to identify the major concerns for Dubuque County. In addition, the assessment included a review of existing data on area families.

Final Reports:

In-Depth Interviews
Results of person-to-person and e-mail surveys of administrators/staff at Dubuque County agencies and local parents. Interview data was qualitative and intended to identify resources and issues considered critical for youth in Dubuque County.

Quantitative Report
Results of a quantitative telephone survey of 400 families in Dubuque County to discover the severity of social issues, awareness of resources, and at-risk populations. The survey was constructed in part based on in-depth interviews.

Secondary Report
Review of existing data on youth and families in Dubuque County. Data was gathered to provide a foundation for further quantitative and qualitative research.
